Volunteer

Volunteers make lasting connections with Footsteps members and have a significant impact on their lives. Footsteps has a limited but important need for volunteers who can work directly with Footsteps members. Described below are a few important that volunteers can provide critical support for our members:

    •  Academic tutoring & test prep
    •  Career advising, mentoring, networking, or offering internships
    •  Offering pro bono professional services (e.g., tax prep, website design,  legal advice, etc.)

If your skill set and interest matches the opportunities listed here, please feel free to get in touch. Please note that Footsteps has a high level of interest from individuals wishing to volunteer. Once you’ve reached out to us, indicating your skills and availability, we will evaluate how closely your volunteer services meet our member needs and determine next steps.

If you would like to take immediate action to support the Footsteps community, please make a tax-deductible gift today. Your donation will help Footsteps provide services, support and opportunities to men and women as they build self-determined lives in mainstream society. Please be in touch with Stephanie Oster, Senior Director of Development at [email protected] with any questions.

Consider these possibilities

We work to broaden our members’ networks for their career advancement and professional development.  If you are someone who loves what you do professionally, and would like to serve as a resource in a specific field or career, we would love to hear from you.  Please email your resume and a brief write-up explaining your interest and experience.

If you can open a space for an intern at your workplace, business, or institution, we would love to hear from you. Additionally, Footsteps runs a summer internship program called the Footsteps Career Fellowship. Footsteps provides stipends for our Career Fellows who work as summer interns.

One of the most useful ways that volunteers can help Footsteps members is by offering free professional services in their areas of specialization, including tax prep, website design, legal advice, and more!  We are always looking for certified professionals to aid our members through their transition.

Education coaches work directly with Footsteps members on a variety of education goals. Footsteps is looking for tutors with a record of excellence.  Tutors work independently with our members helping them prepare for the high school equivalency examination (TASC) and college/graduate school entrance exams (SAT, ACT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT, etc.) as well as individual subject tutoring (ESL, math, science, writing, etc.).
